Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers is trying to free WR Roman Wilson from his biggest obstacle — himself.

On Wednesday, Rodgers spoke with reporters on a multitude of subjects, from his relationship with OC Arthur Smith to preseason football — but one topic captured all the headlines: Wilson’s mindset heading into Year 2.

“I need to get [Roman Wilson] out of his own head a bit, because he’s such a good kid,” Rodgers said. “He cares so much about whether it’s my approval, or he’s doing it right. And he’s just got to trust himself because he’s so damn talented. The more he can play free, and not think out there, the better he’s going to play.”

Wilson missed practically his entire rookie season last year due to injury — but many have high hopes for the second-year Steeler, including Rodgers, who believes that once he’s able to get out of his own head, he could reach that next level.

Fans may get a hefty dose of Wilson in the Steelers’ upcoming preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on August 9 — but Rodgers has hinted he’ll possibly take a raincheck for the matchup.
