Hall of Fame legend Deion Sanders had an eventful summer, but his son and Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders stayed on his mind.

The head coach has spent the summer preparing the Colorado Buffaloes for a Big 12 title. The Buffaloes have a ton of fresh faces as Sanders’ first group of players, who played with him at Jackson State and Colorado, finished their collegiate careers. The group, headlined by Shedeur and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, has made its way to the NFL and is preparing for its professional debuts. Sanders is leading his new team in summer workouts, but his attention is never far from Cleveland.

Sanders was a guest on Asante Samuel’s podcast, and he came out in full support of ESPN Cleveland’s quarterback tracker. The tracker is a rudimentary box score that tracks each of the quarterbacks’ pass attempts during practice. The statistics are utterly devoid of context. They don’t include the drills, the teaching points, if the starters were playing, or if it was the guys fighting to keep their childhood dreams alive, competing on the rep. The quarterback tracker is more of a magic eight-ball than a black box.

However, Shedeur Sanders has been the most productive quarterback according to the numbers. I’m sure seeing Shedeur top the list every day brings immense joy to Primetime. Shedeur has had a rough acclimation to the NFL. His draft day slide was unexpected and a bruise to the family’s ego. He received multiple speeding violations during his first few months in Cleveland. The quarterback asked his father to stay away during camp. Shedeur is starting at the bottom for Cleveland, but he’s kept his spirits high.

Sanders has the opportunity to start and play the majority of the Browns’ first preseason game, Friday in Carolina. It’ll be a good opportunity for everyone, family, and fans alike to witness Sander’s debut in the Brown and Orange.
