The Houston Texans are less than five weeks away from kicking off the 2025 season in Los Angeles against the Rams at SoFi Stadium and we’re counting down the days until a victory ensues on the West Coast.

Texans Wire will daily inform you which player has worn the number of the day leading up to kickoff and select the player who best represented the number during their time at NRG Stadium. As for today, let’s take a look at who has worn No. 31 since the inaugural season in 2002.

Texans players to wear No. 31

No. 31 currently belongs to veteran running back Dameon Pierce. Fresh off the PUP list, the former Florida star hopes to repsond in a contract season and prove his value as a quality second option behind Pro Bowler Joe Mixon.

Initially viewed as a Texans‘ starting-caliber player, Pierce made headlines as a rookie after rushing for a career-high 939 yards and four touchdowns. Since then, he’s been mundane at best, never rushing for more than 420 yards in a season. Pierce has also been a staple on special teams, averaging 37.7 yards per kickoff return for his career.

Here’s hoping now healthy that Pierce shows more so of his 2022 form rather than his 2024 style of play.

CB Aaron Glenn (2002-2004)

Best Player: Aaron Glenn

The head coach of the New York Jets makes list as the G.O.A.T. of No. 31. After Glenn left New York following his time as first-round draft pick from Texas A&M, he was selected by the Texans through the 2002 NFL expansion draft, becoming a member of the inaugural roster. He started 16 games during the Texans’ debut, registering 75 tackles, five interceptions, 16 pass deflections and one sack.

Glenn also became the first Texans player to reach the Pro Bowl in 2002. After three seasons, he closed out his career with the Dallas CowboysJacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints.

While his time in Houston was short, Glenn will be remembered as the first player to ever represent the program in the Pro Bowl, which was something that truly mattered. That deserves some praise, right?
