Dallas Cowboys star pass rusher Micah Parsons, amid contentious contract negotiations with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, was not on the field for practice Thursday for the first time in training camp.
During the practice, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed Parsons was on the property in Oxnard, Calif. After practice, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Dallas Morning News that Parsons was receiving treatment for back tightness.

Parsons has only been an observer at training camp practices as he conducts a hold-in, where a player reports but doesn’t participate in practices, while seeking an extension that will pay him among the highest non-quarterbacks in the league. Last week, Parsons posted a statement on social media stating he no longer wanted to play for the Cowboys and wished to be traded.

Jerry Jones has mocked Parsons’ claim of a back injury, and when previously asked head coach Brian Schottenheimer couldn’t say if his star pass rusher had gotten treatment.
As Jones has repeatedly said, he believes the trade request and the injury is all a negotiating ploy.
On Tuesday, Jones said he’s unsure if Parsons will suit up for the Week 1 opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Parsons got some support Thursday from quarterback Dak Prescott, who said in his post-practice media availability that he’s optimistic Parsons will remain a Cowboy for the long term.
