Fred Taylor’s Week 12 performance in 2000

During his nine-game stretch of registering at least 100 yards a game, Taylor put on a memorable performance with his 30 carries and three touchdowns. Fred Taylor’s 234 rushing yards were the most yards recorded by an opponent in Three Rivers Stadium.

“They lost their discipline. We had a couple of screen plays in there that ended up, with the blocking, being nice touchdowns. I didn’t know it was going to be a special day.” – Fred Taylor

“That was one game when the play came in where I was thinking, ‘I hope it’s to Fred. I’ve got my guy and Keenan’s got his guy. We’re going to make the block and Fred’s going to do damage.’ He was able to have a career game that game.” – Jimmy Smith

Rashean Mathis’s interception in 2005

A fourth-quarter field goal by the Steelers pushed the week six game into overtime. During the Steelers’ second possession, they ran the same curl route the team had executed previously in the game. Mathis recalled telling himself that if they reran the play, then he would pick off the ball. Pittsburgh quarterback Tommy Maddox’s pass was intercepted by Mathis for a 41-yard game-winning walk-off touchdown.

“It’s the ultimate cornerback dream, but in the moment, I was just ecstatic to help my team win.” – Rashean Mathis

“To see that pick-six at the end … it’s amazing how at the end of games like that, your emotions change so quickly, from one side to the other. You’re about ready to go out there for offense. You’re excited to get out there and have a chance to win it. You’re nail-biting, praying because you have no control and you’re watching the defense. All of a sudden, there’s a quick play, pick-six and the game’s over and you win. There’s no feeling like that.” – Brad Meester

David Garrard’s run during the 2007 AFC Wild Card

With 2:38 left on the clock, quarterback David Garrard ran for 32 yards on fourth down from the Steelers’ 43-yard line.

“It was a little bit of pride in me. I wanted to be the reason why we got back into it or why we kept that drive going. I know Maurice or anyone else could have done it, but I wanted the opportunity to redeem myself for earlier plays that didn’t go our way. They called the quarterback draw. I could see it as we were lining up. I knew we had it, but that was also the side [Steelers linebacker James Harrison] was on. I was like, ‘If [left tackle] Khalif [Barnes] can just keep is hands on him, I can work my way around him or run him over for two yards.’ I ran through a hole I could not believe was there. I thought, ‘Wow, no one’s here. Just me and the safety? OK, well protect the ball and go down gently.’ He didn’t lay a hand on me.” – David Garrard
