The Los Angeles Rams are liking what they’re seeing out of two-time Georgia Bulldogs national champion quarterback Stetson Bennett. Los Angeles has been impressed with how Bennett has performed throughout training camp.
Bennett has received more reps than usual because starting Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has missed practice due to a back injury. Bennett is slated to play a lot of snaps this preseason as well after Rams coach Sean McVay said that Jimmy Garoppolo will not play this preseason. Bennett’s only competition for snaps will be Dresser Winn, who by all accounts he has outperformed in training camp.

McVays likes the joy that Bennett is playing with. Bennett is entering his third season in the NFL and is more comfortable in the Rams’ system.
“He’s enjoying it,” McVay said. “I think when you watched him play at Georgia and even some of the preseason games, when he gets into a rhythm and he’s smiling, I think all these great competitors, there’s an enjoyment.”

“He’s grown up so much. He’s in such a good spot mentally,” Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said at training camp. “He’s had great command of the huddle compared to what it used to be, but what I think is even better is when that ball snaps, he’s just playing so fast. He has a knack, you can see it from his college film, and it’s coming through here in Year 3. He has a knack of space and feeling space, when to speed up his drops and when to tempo it down.

“What’s been most impressive, particularly the first few days when he was going against the one defense a lot, that pocket is collapsed and he just knows where his outlets are,” continued LaFleur. “Hey, don’t make a bad play worse. He’s done a great job of that. He continues to stack days. He’s going to get a lot of ops in the preseason, which will be great for him.”
One thing to watch this preseason will be if Bennett can limit turnovers. Over the past two preseasons, Bennett has turned the ball over too much, but based on reports he’s made significant strides in protecting the football.
