The Kansas City Chiefs have an intense roster battle brewing on their depth chart at the tight end position.
Superstar pass-catcher Travis Kelce’s job is safe, his backups got a ton of playing time during Kansas City’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 of the preseason, and gave the Chiefs’ coaching staff plenty to think about while the team heads back to training camp in St. Joseph.

Crafty veteran tight end Robert Tonyan was Kansas City’s leading receiver against the Cardinals, hauling in three receptions for 49 yards in the contest.
The only other Chiefs tight end who caught a pass in Kansas City’s loss was Jared Wiley, who recorded one reception for two yards.
While the Chiefs’ overall offensive production was less than impressive, Tonyan’s performance was laudable, and it may help earn a spot on Kansas City’s 53-man roster when general manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid make their cuts later this month.
