In his NFL preseason debut on Saturday against the Tennessee Titans, former Iowa football linebacker Nick Jackson has already accomplished a Tampa Bay Buccaneers statistical feat not done since 2017.
Jackson, who spent six years with the Hawkeyes and finished as the No. 2 all-time FBS leader in tackles (555), chose to sign with Tampa Bay after he went undrafted in the 2025 NFL draft this past March.

During the preseason matchup against the Titans, Jackson recorded a sack of Tennessee quarterback Brandon Allen on the first play from scrimmage during a second-quarter drive and intercepted Allen with one hand just a few plays later.
According to the Buccaneers Communications, Jackson becomes the first player since 2017 to record both a sack and an interception in the same preseason game.
While Tampa Bay’s 29-7 victory is just the first of its three preseason games, Jackson’s remarkable feat should reward him with a favorable impression in hopes of making the Buccaneers’ 52-man roster before their first regular-season game on Sept. 7.
