The Detroit Lions made a series of injury-related roster moves in the wake of the team’s preseason matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.

Detroit placed three players on injured reserve:

OT Justin HerronOL Colby SorsdalTE Kenny Yeboah

Herron injured his arm during pre-game warmups, leaving the field with an air cast enshrounding his right arm. Sorsdal and Yeboah suffered injuries during Friday’s exhibition. They all join CB Ennis Rakestraw and S Dan Jackson as players placed on I.R. since training camp began. Detroit can activate two of them during the regular season if they are healthy enough. Rakestraw has already been ruled out from returning in 2025.

The Lions also waived running back Jabari Small with an injury settlement. There is not any movement with safety Morice Norris, who suffered a serious injury in Friday’s game that saw him leave the playing field in an ambulance. Norris has offered up positive updates on his health status, but his football future remains unknown.

UFL pipeline

The Lions turned to the UFL to restock the roster, as they’ve done quite a bit this offseason. Detroit added four players who were in the UFL in that league’s 2025 spring season:

OL Gunner BrittonRB Deon JacksonTE Gunnar OakesOL Keaton Sutherland

Jackson is the most experienced NFL name of the newcomers. The 220-pound Jackson played three seasons in the NFL, beginning in 2021 with the Colts. He had 68 carries for 236 yards and also caught 30 passes for the Colts in 2022. Jackson played with the DC Defenders most recently.

Sutherland also has prior NFL experience. Detroit is the Texas A&M product’s eighth NFL stop since entering the league in 2019. He’s played in six career games, none since 2021. He was with Birmingham in the UFL.

The new Lions will have their first practice in Detroit on Monday morning.
