It’s certainly too early to make bold predictions, but what the heck? What’s the point in being cautious? We’ve seen enough about the Baltimore Ravens‘ secondary to begin expressing lofty expectations.

Name another NFL secondary with the potential to be this good. You can’t, can you? Don’t worry. We can’t either. That’s what happens when your team uses all the tools in its toolbelt to create something special.

In three of the last four NFL Drafts, the Ravens spent first-round capital on acquiring a defensive back: Kyle Hamilton (2022), Nate Wiggins (2024), and Malaki Starks (2025).

Wiggins has been spotlighted earlier this offseason for his breakout potential, and the compliments haven’t slowed. With a preseason game in the books and two remaining on the slate, he again finds his way into another conversation praising his ability.

Nate Wiggins named among the NFL’s elite second-year stars

ESPN’s Ben Solak recently dropped his list of the NFL’s 20 most critical second-year defenders. One of the familiar faces, Nate Wiggins, made the cut.

“Wiggins is a physical, talkative corner who rises to competition. Thinner corners like him (6-foot-1, 182 pounds) can often struggle with strength at the NFL level, but his wiry frame more than held up over the course of the regular season. His movement skills and ball skills alike created high-impact plays.”

Solak also mentioned that Wiggins has his deficiencies, but who doesn’t, right? Wiggins must be a better tackler and commit fewer penalties.

If that doesn’t happen, he’ll find himself on the pine as he was during various points of his rookie NFL season. He’ll be partnering with elite veterans like Jaire Alexander and an exciting rookie who’s generating a lot of buzz.

This team has the potential to field its best secondary ever. That is certainly not an exaggeration.
