The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to sign former Atlanta Falcons running back Jase McCellan, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. McClellan, a standout at Alabama, was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft by the Falcons.
As a rookie, McClellan appeared in two games, rushing for 32 yards on 13 attempts. While he didn’t get much playing time behind Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, McClellan showed some promise in the 2024 preseason. He led the Falcons with 55 rushing yards on 11 carries against the Baltimore Ravens.
Atlanta released McClellan in June and signed former UFL star Jashaun Corbin as a replacement. In Friday’s preseason opener, the Falcons running game was unable to find any room. Corbin made his team debut and rushed for just one yard on one carry.
McClellan, 23, is a decent dual-threat option, showing some ability to catch the ball out of the backfield at Alabama. The Buccaneers have solid running back depth, so it’ll be interesting to see if he makes the 53-man roster.
Tampa Bay has been the class of the NFC South in recent years. If McClellan ends up doing well with the Buccaneers, he’ll get to face his former team twice a year, starting in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.
The Falcons signed veteran center Jake Hanson and safety Ronnie Harrison to their 90-man roster on Monday afternoon. Check out our latest 53-man roster projection for Atlanta as we head into preseason Week 2.
