The Las Vegas Raiders entered training camp looking for depth pass rushers. Maxx Crosby and the re-signed Malcolm Koonce are the unquestioned starters at the position. Tyree Wilson remains a top rotational option. Elsewhere, fifth-year pro Charles Snowden is attempting to capture a reserve role as well.

Snowden played extensively in Thursday’s Week 1 preseason tie with the Seattle Seahawks. The former Virginia talent played 35 snaps, third-most on the defense, and more than any other Raiders edge defender. Snowden took full advantage of his opportunity.

Snowden recorded three pressures and an 11.1% pass-rush-win-rate (PRWR), according to Pro Football Focus. The 2021 undrafted free agent wasn’t perfect, however. PFF also assigned Snowden blame for missing two tackles, and he allowed two receptions in coverage for 18 yards.

Snowden possesses outstanding size and length. Having first joined the Raiders in 2023, he’s survived several regime changes. Even John Spytek and Pete Carroll remain intrigued by Snowden’s untapped potential.

Crosby and Koonce are expected to form a successful pass-rushing duo this season. Snowden is listed as a second-stringer on the Raiders’ current unofficial depth chart, but rookies Jah Joyner and Tonka Hemingway are also competing for roles. Snowden is in a battle to make the 53-man roster. His showing in Week 1 of the preseason strengthened his chances.
