Entering Tuesday, there were some questions about who the Cincinnati Bengals might roll out at safety with Geno Stone out with an injury and the depth at the position seeming lukewarm so far this summer.

So much so, justified speculation suggested that the Bengals could look to free agency for help, depending on how this week went.

According to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway, the honor went to Tycen Anderson.

Anderson, a fifth-round pick in 2022, has battled multiple serious injuries since entering the NFL, yet continues to be a key presence on special teams for the Bengals when healthy.

Overall, the Bengals will count on Stone and Jordan Battle to start next year under coordinator Al Golden. But former undrafted PJ Jules has been the hot name lately on the depth chart behind them, overshadowing Anderson and Daijahn Anthony.

How the Bengals continue to move through the rotations this week and how the players respond will inform onlookers about how seriously they look at free agents and claims, perhaps around the time of final cuts around the NFL soon.
