For one group of Commerce High School students, a recent trip to the Atlanta Falcons Practice Training Facility was more than just a field trip — it was an unforgettable day filled with smiles, inspiration and connection.

Organizers say the event would not have been possible without the support and generosity of many people, both in Commerce and in Atlanta.

“Unfortunately, not all of our students can participate in sports, so it’s been a passion of mine to bring sports to them,” said Commerce High School teacher Wes Massey. “Today, we did just that – and we’ll keep doing it.”

The group expressed gratitude to Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, the Falcons players and the front office staff for their time, kindness and joy in meeting the students.

“Your smiles were just as big as theirs, and that’s saying something,” a thank-you note to the Falcons read.

Special thanks also went to Commerce City Schools administrators, parents and paraprofessionals who made the trip possible.

“You are the unsung heroes who make days like this possible. Almost two hours of sitting quietly with no outbursts is a testament to your skill, patience, and love for our students,” Massey said of the paras.

Massey noted that the students themselves were at the heart of it all.

“While today was ultimately for you, please know the impact you have on all six adults who were fortunate enough to take you, and even on the 6-foot-5 and 6-foot-8 NFL players whose hearts you touched. You inspire us daily,” he said.

The day ended on another high note when a visitor arrived at the organizer’s door with a donation in support of their work. “Thank you for believing in what we do,” Massey said.

Massey summed up the day’s mission: “We are simply persons — who has a passion — for serving people — who need a little extra help finding their purpose.”
