The Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns held Joint Practices as part of Training Camp for the third time in the last four years.

In 2023 and 2025, the Browns traveled to Philadelphia for these structured intrasquad practices. These are very valuable for coaches to get their players into specific situational football scenarios that allow for better evaluation of players in position battles.

But after the two joint practices this week, both teams will use Saturday’s preseason game to get a better perspective on players on players who are competing for the final roster spots. NFL teams must make their roster cuts and have the initial 53-man roster set by 4pm EST on Tuesday, August 26th.

Players You Need To Watch For In Eagles vs Browns

*Wide Receivers Darius Cooper, Ainias Smith, Johnny Wilson
Everyone knows who the Eagles top three Wide Receivers are for the 2025 NFL season. But the next few spots on the WR Depth Chart are up for grabs.

Johnny Wilson has shown major improvement from year one to year two in the NFL. The Eagles coaches have been complimentary of his work ethic and if he continues to perform up to the expectations that made the Eagles draft him in 2024, he could become a key backup this upcoming season.

Ainias Smith is a top candidate to be Philadelphia’s primary Kick and Punt Returner on Special Teams. But if he can continue to showcase his value as a Backup Wide Receiver, his versatility will make him more valuable than the others competing for roster spots.

An undrafted Free Agent from Tarleton State University, Darius Cooper has been one of the most impressive players at Eagles Training Camp. He has performed as one of the best Wide Receivers for the Eagles so far and if he continues to showcase his skills, he could for Philadelphia to keep him on the initial 53-man roster.

Expect all three Wide Receivers to get significant playing time on Saturday afternoon against the Browns.

*Tight Ends Harrison Bryant, Kaylen Granson, and EJ Jenkins
The backup Tight End slot on the depth chart is still up for grabs at Eagles Training Camp. Since Dallas Goedert averages four games missed per season, you need to make sure the depth at the position is the right guys.

The Eagles’ primary Backup Tight End is Grant Calcaterra, who has his own history of injuries from his years playing College Football along with his time in the NFL.

There are varying opinions about which the Eagles will keep on both the 53-man roster and Practice Squad for the 2025 NFL season.

This offseason, the Eagles added two tight ends who were good College Tight Ends who have been backups at the NFL level.

Harrison Bryant is the 2019 John Mackey Award winner (given to the best Tight End in College Football). After showcasing himself as a premium passing target in college at Florida Atlantic, he was relegated to becoming a backup Tight End in the NFL, where he has displayed good skills as a blocker. Bryant has looked like the better Tight End of the three in Preseason Game One, so can he separate himself in this competition?

Kylen Granson’s versatility is the biggest reason why he is in this Roster Depth Competition. After playing both Tight End and Wide Receiver in college, the former SMU player has shown the ability to line up as a Fullback as well at the NFL level, making him a potentially valuable depth player for the Eagles in 2025.

EJ Jenkins was a member of the 2024 Eagles team and came into Training Camp the most familiar with the offense. This 6’6″ former College Wide Receiver has shown that he is a reliable pass and run blocker at the NFL level. But he lacks the versatility of Granson or the athletic resume that Bryant has.

All three men will get playing time on Saturday afternoon, where they can prove they are the best choice to be Philadelphia’s Number Three Tight End.

*Safety Andrew Makuba
After not having a major role to showcase his skills in the first preseason game due to a minor shoulder injury, the Eagles second-round draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft is expected to get his first game action on Saturday afternoon.

Many Eagles Insiders believe that Makuba is the player the Philadelphia coaching staff want to be the Week One Starter at Safety next to Reed Blankenship. But when Makuba missed time with a Shoulder Issue, he fell behind the learning curve of Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio’s scheme.

Saturday will be a clear opportunity for Makuba to prove he is the man to take the starting Safety job when the Eagles open the season on Thursday, September 4th.

*Cornerbacks Kelee Ringo, Jakorian Bennett, and Adoree Jackson
In the Eagles first preseason game, both Bengals starting and backup Wide Receivers had their way with Corners Ringo and Jackson. The Eagles are supposed be having a competition for the second starting CB Spot, and both contenders entering Training Camp got shredded on by the Cincinnati offense.

Philadelphia acquired Bennett from the Raiders to add competition to the position battle but many insiders wonder if he is secretly the leader in the clubhouse. Ringo and Jackson didn’t look any better during Joint Practices with the Browns this week.

Bennett is still learning DC Vic Fangio’s defense, which the Eagles Defensive Coordinator has said in the past is a reason why some players don’t get on the field immediately. We will find out how much Bennett has learned during Saturday’s Preseason game.
