The Tennessee Titans were the worst team in the NFL last season, but reinforcements are on the way in 2025. No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward is sure to put wind in the sails of Titans fans, and new general manager Mike Borgonzi made several roster upgrades in his first year at the helm.

While Tennessee still figures to be the worst team in a weak AFC South division, progress will be the key for this team in the second year under head coach Brian Callahan. Unfortunately, the Titans still have several glaring holes that they must fill if they want to be more competitive.

Sports Illustrated’s Matt Verderame wrote about the state of the AFC South after the 2025 NFL Draft, and to no surprise, the Titans raised several concerns. One in particular should worry fans as they approach a critical point in the offseason.

“The rest of the roster is lacking,” Verderame wrote. “Specifically on the defensive side, where there are serious questions at all three levels of the unit.”

Outside of cornerback L’Jarius Sneed and defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, the Titans’ defense lacks high-end talent. Free agent linebacker Cody Barton should be a great contributor, but it will take more than one elite talent at each level to carry a defense.

Players like Sebastian Joseph-Day, Arden Key, Dre’Mont Jones and Jarvis Brownlee Jr. are all solid players, but this is nowhere near the amount of star power needed to carry a poor offense and underwhelming supporting cast on defense. With whatever cap space the team has left, they need to find solutions on defense.
