The 2025 NFL Draft is officially over and Washington has added 5 new players to their roster. The Commanders entered the draft with 5 picks, and

General manager Adam Peters went into this draft looking for value, and that’s what he got on Day 1 of the draft. Oregon OT Josh Conerly Jr was high enough on Washington’s board that they didn’t entertain any trade offers. Peters said the rookie offensive linemen will compete at right tackle, but he can also play guard. This pick gives Washington more options on their OL, and continues their trend of building the offensive line to protect franchise QB Jayden Daniels. Laremy Tunsil was acquired via trade from the Texans, which will move Brandon Coleman to another position. Sam Cosmi is recovering from a torn ACL in January, which opens up both guard spots to competition in training camp.

The Commanders only had one pick on Day 2, and many people expected them to try to trade down to acquire more draft capital. That might have been the plan until they got closer to their pick and Ole Miss CB Trey Amos was still on the board. Peters said the 5th-year senior was in consideration for their first round pick, and they weren’t going to pass on him, despite more trade interest. Amos will come in and compete for one of the outside corner spots, and is likely to be starting across from Marshon Lattimore. This also frees up second-year DB Mike Sainristil to play more in the slot.

The Commanders entered day 3 with three picks and they didn’t make any trades. Washington kicked off Day 3 by picking Virginia Tech WR Jaylin Lane in the fourth round. He is a speedy, versatile receiver who is a little undersized. He got the Commanders tag and was the top punt returner on Adam Peters draft board. He will likely take over the Jamison Crowder role on the team.

Washington had a long wait until their next pick, and they used it on UCLA LB Kain Medrano. He was the fastest LB at this year’s NFL combine, and is expected to make a quick impact on special teams. He was a sixth-year senior, and a captain who’s also a physical freak which checks a lot of boxes for Adam Peters.

Washington closed out their 2025 draft class by drafting Jacory Croskey-Merritt, RB, Arizona with the 245th overall pick in the 7th round. The Commanders add a running back to a room that already includes Brian Robinson Jr, Austin Ekeler, Jeremy McNichols, and Chris Robinson Jr.
