A staple of every NFL preseason is the “MetLife Bowl” aka “Snoopy Bowl” when the Giants and Jets meet in August for joint practices and a game prior to the regular season.
On Aug. 16, the two teams that call MetLife Stadium home will meet each other after each won their respective preseason openers.
How did Giants do in first preseason game?
Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart, who made his preseason debut against the Buffalo Bills, placed a ball right into the hands of WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey for an impressive first NFL touchdown pass as he was driven into the ground a split second later by fellow rookie Bills defensive lineman T.J. Sanders in the Giants’ 34-25 win over Buffalo.
Abdul Carter — the No. 3 overall pick in the NFL Draft — played limited snaps but made quite the impression in his debut. Carter finished with three QB pressures, with two coming against one of the best blindside protectors in the league in Bills’ starting left tackle Dion Dawkins.
How did Jets do in first preseason game?
The Jets continued their winning ways in the preseason (13-4-1 in last 18 games) as they took care of business with a 30-10 victory at Lambeau Field against the Packers.
QB Justin Fields didn’t disappoint in his debut for Gang Green, as he led a 10-play, 79-yard touchdown drive that was capped off as he evaded multiple Green Bay defenders and beat Packers safety Kitan Oladapo to the corner of the end zone for a 13-yard rushing TD in his only drive of the game.
The Jets’ starting offensive line also deserves some props, as it gave Fields plenty of room to operate during his lone series. This was especially true on Fields’ touchdown scramble, with left guard Joe Tippman picking up two quick crucial blocks — including one on three-time Pro-Bowler Kenny Clark — that cleared a lane for Fields to get out of the pocket and to the end zone.
