After going 7-6 in his first season in charge of Boston College football, Bill O’Brien is expected to have another solid season in year two.
In their preseason bowl predictions for 2025, ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach both believe the Eagles will make it back to another bowl game.

While both predict Boston College to matchup with Auburn in a bowl game, which game it will be in is the question for Bonagura and Schlabach.
Bonagura sees the Eagles playing earlier on in the bowl slate. His prediction was a matchup in the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl in Tampa at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19.
Schlabach however, predicts the matchup will come closer to the end of the year. He has his eyes set on the Birmingham Bowl on Monday Dec. 29 at 2 p.m.
If Boston College does make it, it will be the third year in a row playing beyond the regular season. In 2023, Jeff Hafley’s last year as head coach, the team went 6-6 in the regular season before winning the Fenway Wasabi Bowl over SMU, 23-14.

Last year, after a 7-5 regular season with O’Brien, the Eagles went to Yankee Stadium and fell to Nebraska 20-15 in the Pinstripe Bowl.
The main difference this season for Boston College however is that they will be without quarterback Tommy Castellanos who started in 2023 and the majority of 2024. The senior opted to transfer to Florida State after being benched for Grayson James at the end of last year.
James, who went 4-2 with the Eagles in 2024, will not be their starting quarterback to begin the 2025 season. Instead, O’Brien announced that Alabama transfer Dylan Lonergan will start in the season opener against Fordham on Aug. 30 at home.
