A beat up Steelers defensive kept Tom Brady out of the end zone for 55 minutes and Mitch Trubisky successfully replaced an injury Kenny Pickett as Pittsburgh beat the Buccaneers, 20-18 at Acrisure Stadium on Oct. 16, 2022.

Pickett threw his first career touchdown pass to Najee Harris in the first quarter, but a hit from blitzing linebacker Devin White knocked him out of the game. Chris Boswell kicked two field goals and Trubisky found Chase Claypool for a six-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to extend the Steelers lead.

With 4:45 to play, Brady finally punched through a defense that was playing without T.J. Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Ahkello Witherspoon, Levi Wallace and Cam Sutton with a touchdown pass to Leonard Fournette, but Devin Bush broke up the two-point conversion attempt, and Trubisky and the Pittsburgh offense ran out the clock.

The Steelers and Buccaneers last met in the preseason in Tampa in 2023.

The Steelers and Buccaneers have met only 12 times in the regular season since Tampa Bay joined the league in 1976, and the Steelers have dominated the series, winning 10 of the 12.

Tampa won, 27-24 at Heinz Field in 2014 and 16-3 at Raymond James Stadium in 1998. The Steelers won four straight games from 1976-80, four straight again from 2001-10, and also the last two.

The teams will meet in Tampa next season.
