Former Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson played the first four drives of the New York Giants‘ preseason Week 2 win over the New York Jets on Saturday. He led one scoring drive in that time, completing four of seven passes for 108 yards, zero touchdowns and an interception.

Wilson’s outing was defined by a few high-risk, high-reward deep passes. The first play, which was the third of the Giants’ first drive, was an 80-yard completion to wide receiver Beaux Collins. Collins took the deep over-the-middle pass down to the Jets’ one-yard line, setting up running back Devin Singletary for a short touchdown run.

Following punts on the team’s second and third drives, Wilson took a similar risk on drive No. 4. He went deep right to Collins in the end zone. However, the wide receiver instead broke inside, sending the ball into the waiting arms of Jets cornerback Qwan’tez Stiggers.

Even with the up-and-down results, Wilson remains the Giants’ starting quarterback entering the 2025 season. Giants head coach Brian Daboll made that fact clear when the team opened training camp.

Saturday’s results aside, Wilson may still need a strong start to the 2025 season to keep hold of that starting role. Rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart has impressed in limited preseason action, including an 87.5% completion, 137-yard, one-touchdown performance on Saturday against the Jets.

The Giants are back on the field on Thursday, Aug. 21, against the New England Patriots. Wilson will likely sit for that final preseason contest before leading the Giants in their Week 1 matchup against the Washington Commanders on Sept. 7.
