Scherff was one of the top free agent offensive linemen this offseason, but he remained unsigned into preseason games.

His most recent team, the Jacksonville Jaguars have not made any confirmation that he retired from the league.

However, an article this month from the Iowa Athletic department referred to him as “having retired from playing this summer.”

Scherff was inducted into the Iowa Athletics Hall of Fame, and spoke about his career in the aforementioned article.

“It’s been something I could never dream of,” Scherff said.

“Sometimes I would tell my wife that she has to pinch me, because I’m playing a kid’s game, and being able to do it as a job is pretty amazing.

“Now, having kids and being able to see them after games is absolutely wonderful.

“So I would say it’s a dream come true. And I will be forever grateful to have had that chance.”

Scherff became a free agent in March, and NFL insiders are finally recognizing him as retired.

He was drafted with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2015 by Washington.

Scherff spent the first seven years of his career with them before joining the Jaguars in 2022.

Over the course of his career, he made five Pro Bowls and one All-Pro team.

He was also a part of the 2025 NFL All-Rookie team.

Scherff was also an iron man, missing little time in 10 years.
