New York Jets sophomore wide receiver Malachi Corley entered the offseason with much to prove after a disastrous rookie season.

The No. 65 overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft was a complete non-factor last year. Through two exhibition games, it appears the Jets are considering cutting Corley altogether.

Corley earned just 13 snaps against the New York Giants in Saturday’s 31-12 Week 2 preseason defeat. The former Western Kentucky standout didn’t enter the exhibition showcase on offense until the fourth quarter. That’s the telltale sign of a back-end wideout who’s heading for danger on cut-down day:

Corley wasn’t targeted in the passing game, either.

New Jets GM Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn inherited the second-rounder from the previous regime. They don’t possess any ties or reason for loyalty to Corley and appear willing to admit Joe Douglas and Co. simply made an egregious mistake last year.

Corley made just nine regular-season appearances in 2024, totaling 83 snaps on offense. He concluded his rookie campaign with three receptions for 16 yards.

Corley was a healthy scratch for five contests, and his defining moment was an unfortunate viral one, where he released the ball a split-second before crossing the goal line. It resulted in an embarrassing fumble and lost of possession instead of a walk-in touchdown.

The Jets lack quality wide receiver depth behind Garrett Wilson. Veteran journeyman Josh Reynolds is leading the race to be Justin Fields’ WR2.

Corley’s failure to stand out in a shallow wideout room bodes poorly for his 53-man roster chances.
