Less than a month after signing a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons, veteran wide receiver D.J. Chark is back on the free agent market.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Falcons have released the former Detroit Lions wide receiver, marking his fourth departure from a franchise since leaving the Jacksonville Jaguars after the 2021 season.
Chark played in one game this preseason for the Falcons — last Friday’s 23-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans. He finished with one reception on three targets for 11 yards.
Since leaving the Jaguars, Chark’s best stretch of football came during the 2022 and 2023 seasons with the Lions and Carolina Panthers, respectively.
Starting 11 games for the Lions in 2022, Chark caught 30 passes for 502 yards and three touchdowns. He followed that up the next season with the Panthers, posting 35 receptions for 525 yards and five touchdowns.
Last season with the Los Angeles Chargers marked career lows for Chark, who had 10 catches for 31 yards and one touchdown.
Selected by the Jaguars with the 61st overall pick (second round) of the 2018 NFL Draft, the 6-foot-3 receiver has struggled to reclaim the success of his lone Pro Bowl season in 2019. That year, Chark had 73 receptions for 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns — tied for the ninth most among wide receivers.
