In need of healthy depth at both defensive tackle and safety, the Green Bay Packers made four different roster moves on Monday, including the addition of two new players.

The team announced the following moves: waived defensive lineman Keith Randolph with an injury designation, released cornerback Garnett Hollis Jr. and signed defensive back Jaylin Simpson and defensive lineman Devonte O’Malley — two players who recently worked out for the team.

The signings of both Simpson and O’Malley were reported earlier Monday. Both new players practiced for Matt LaFleur’s team for the first time on Monday.

Simpson was a fifth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2024, while O’Malley is an undrafted rookie out of Northern Illinois. Simpson will wear No. 38; O’Malley gets No. 69.

The Packers currently have three injured safeties in Xavier McKinney, Zayne Anderson and Omar Brown, so an addition was necessary to get through the rest of training camp. Along the defensive line, the Packers are without Kenny Clark and three edge rushers due to injuries.

Brown played 62 snaps during the first two preseason games, while Randolph was on the field for 33 snaps — and those snaps need to be replaced with a joint practice and preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks coming up this week.

Simpson is undersized (6-0, 180) but has experience at both safety and slot cornerback and is an elite athlete. O’Malley, who spent time with the Tennessee Titans this year, produced 30.0 tackles for loss and 22.5 sacks over five seasons at Northern Illinois.

It’s going to be tough for either player to stick in Green Bay. The Packers need to cut the roster down to 53 players by next Tuesday, although a strong final week could give Simpson and O’Malley a chance to make the 16-player practice squad.
