Steelers rookie RB Kaleb Johnson more than lived up to expectations against the Buccaneers last Saturday — and HC Mike Tomlin shared what’s next for the third-rounder’s development.
Following Monday’s practice, reporters asked Tomlin what he hopes to see out of Johnson heading into the preseason finale — and the long-time Steelers head coach kept it simple: it’s all about comfort level.

“I just want to continue to see him get more comfortable in this environment,” Tomlin said. “I think the more comfortable he gets, the less fuel he burns in anticipation, if you will, the more his talents are going to show. I think you saw it from game one to game two. It’s reasonable to expect that to continue.”
Comparing Johnson’s preseason Week 1 outing to Week 2, it’s easy to see the third-round rookie looked far more comfortable in his second appearance — where his fantastic vision and cuts were on full display throughout his 50-yard rushing performance last Saturday.
Fans will have one last opportunity to catch Johnson in preseason action when the Steelers head to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers on Thursday, August 21, at 7:00 p.m. ET — which fans can learn more about here.
