The Indianapolis Colts have named Daniel Jones their starting quarterback ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

That’s notable news to the Denver Broncos because the Colts are set to host the Broncos in Week 2. After opening the regular season at Empower Field at Mile High against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 7, Denver will take a road trip to Lucas Oil Stadium to face Jones on Sept. 14 (assuming he’s still starting two weeks into the season).

Jones, 28, was named the starter after beating out Anthony Richardson in a quarterback competition this summer. The Colts say they haven’t given up on Richardson as a prospect, but this is another setback in his pro career.

Jones, who originally entered the league as a first-round pick out of Duke with the New York Giants in 2019, spent last season as a backup with the Minnesota Vikings. He is 24-44-1 as a starter in his career, including an 0-1 record against the Broncos. Denver is considered an early 3.5-point favorite against Indy in Week 2.
