FRISCO — The only excitement from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ speech to fans on Tuesday at the first of two open practices at the Ford Center was that 20 players expect to fight for their jobs.

“We’re going to have a group of players out here today, this is what we call a padded practice,” Jones told the crowd. “Today, you need to understand we got 20 or so players that are literally fighting for their job, looking forward to be a Dallas Cowboy. That’s what you’re going to see out here today. So you’re going to see young guys really busting you know what to impress as much as they possibly can (in) these next few practices to what we do in the game Friday night.”

The Cowboys play their final preseason game Friday against the Falcons.

At least 13 players missed practice for a variety of health issues. The exception was pass rusher Micah Parsons, who continued his hold-in, by sitting down on a chair as practice was being conducted.
