BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) —  Southern University fans are going to have to wait until kickoff on Saturday to find out who the starting quarterback for the Jags is.

Head Coach Terence Graves maintains that the competition between Jalen Woods and Cam’Ron McCoy is still ongoing, and he is delegating the decision of who will start at quarterback to his offensive staff.

He also confirmed that both quarterbacks will see game action on Saturday when the Jags take on North Carolina Central for the MEAC/SWAC Challenge. This isn’t the first time Southern has had to wait until game time to find out who is starting under center, which seems like Graves is having everyone play the guessing game for a competitive advantage, but Graves says that’s not the case.

“I don’t think it’s an advantage. I think people want to make that, you know, ‘Hey, we’re going to keep them guessing,’ because, you know, Trei (Oliver) and his staff are preparing for both quarterbacks. So basically, whoever goes out there first in whatever game plan they have for that quarterback, that’s what they’re going to use. Some people like to use that as the element of surprise, but it’s not that big of a deal,” said Graves.

The Jags kick off the 2025 season on Saturday, Aug. 23, against North Carolina Central in Atlanta for the MEAC/SWAC Challenge. The game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
