Miami Dolphins cornerback Jack Jones knows exactly how it looked. His brutal day of practice against the Detroit Lions last week was all over social media with highlights of wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown leaving Jones in the dust.

“Y’all seen the tape, he cooked me,” Jones told reporters Wednesday. “But I got better from that and I’m learning a technique that I’m not used to doing, so he made me better.”

Jones elaborated on what exactly is new about his technique heading into the 2025 season.

“I would like to consider myself an off-corner,” Jones said. “But coming here, they just pretty much changed all around, and I’m press all the time. I got to get up in guys’ face. Just learning different tricks, different techniques to help me get myself in the right position.”

So he’s not too concerned about his rough practice against St. Brown. And he channeled Allen Iverson on his social media, reminding fans that “we’re talking about practice.”

With the regular season less than three weeks away, the Dolphins are hoping Jones will continue to grow comfortable with a more aggressive approach that he’s used to.

“We’re trying to force offenses to be off schedule,” Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver said Tuesday. “In order to do that, you’ve got to disrupt some routes. Offenses are going to give you different sets right. They’re going to stack receivers, condense and try to hope to get you off, but if we get an opportunity to put hands on, we’re going to do that.”

Weaver said he’s encouraged by the progress Jones is making.

“Jack to me is a juice guy,” Weaver said. “He’s a guy that feeds and plays well off of energy, so when he makes a play, your defense is going to feed off of it and the opponents are going to hear it, too.

“The one thing I love about Jack is some of the things we’re asking him to do are kind of foreign to him, are really just aren’t in his wheelhouse. We know what he does best, we’re just asking him to trust us in trying to build and add some tools to his toolbox. I’m thrilled where Jack’s at and just know he’s going to make plays for us this season.”
