Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer is saying everything he’s supposed to say.

He used the word “confident” to describe his optimism that Micah Parsons will be ready to play in the Week 1 season opener on Thursday, Sept. 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
It appears there’s still room to worry, though.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero provided a less-than-ideal update on Thursday morning.
He shared the expected, that Parsons will be the “highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history” whenever he signs a new deal.

The rest of the news doesn’t seem great for a contract getting done, though.

“There is still no movement in terms of a contract extension,” Pelissero said. “… There is still no communication between the Cowboys and Parsons’ agent about trying to get a deal done.”
How is that possible? It’s a question many football fans are wondering.

It appears both sides seem to think they have leverage, but that can’t really be true. At some moment down the road, one will realize they actually need to make a move to get this contract done.
The Cowboys have a deep pass rush, and maybe that can hold up in the early going without Parsons. But the Week 1 opener against the Eagles is crucial right off the bat in establishing ground in the NFC East Division race.

Dallas also can’t want to lose Parsons long term, and the longer Jerry Jones and company wait to get a deal done, the more likely it seems Parsons eventually opts to leave town.
Pelissero went on to acknowledge that the Cowboys historically get these deals done at the last minute. But until that happens with Parsons, it’s a situation with some serious suspense.
