It gets started tonight with a small schedule that never the less includes some huge games.

10:12 PM, All smiles in Spanish Fort: Spanish Fort defeats Fairhope 27-7 to win the 13th edition of the California Dreaming Bowl. Toros led 3-0 at the half and pulled away in the second half.

The Red Devils’ score came as Cooper Wales snagged a scoring pass. Still in the first quarter. … The first quarter is in the books at Spanish Fort and its 0-0 with Fairhope. … Kickoff is in mere moments at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery. Prattville is debuting new white helmets for this game against Pike Road.
7:16 p.m., First TD for JP2: Danny Frey puts St. John Paul II ahead of Elkmont 7-0 with a touchdown with 8:11 left in the first quarter. … There’s no score between Fairhope and Class 6A No. 10 Spanish Fort and with 5:30 left in the opening quarter – in the rain – there’s a mandated heat timeout taken. … The Kickoff Classic between Prattville and Pike Road in Montgomery has yet to kick due to the weather.

1:50 p.m., Case closed: A day after Jackson High suspended star tailback and Alabama commit EJ Crowell for Friday’s marquee game against Saraland, the school– in a statement sent to media members– reiterated that it did not believe there had been a rule violation.
“However, when presented with a choice of a one-game suspension versus the possibility of many more games or even a full season, we made the decision that the only choice was obvious,” the letter stated.
