The Pittsburgh Steelers have revamped their offense this offseason, signing quarterback Aaron Rodgers, acquiring wide receiver D.K. Metcalf and trading away fellow receiver George Pickens.
Still, in spite of the Steelers making some major moves, their depth has been questioned, particularly at the wide receiver position.

Moving Pickens has left Pittsburgh with very limited proven options behind Metcalf. Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson may very well be the Steelers’ No. 2 and 3 receivers, and even though they are both young with potential, they haven’t established themselves as reliable just yet.
You would then think that Pittsburgh would want to ensure some veteran pass-catchers were on the roster, which is why the Steelers added Robert Woods in free agency. However, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic isn’t so sure Woods will even make it to Week 1 with the team.

Ahead of cutdown day, DeFabo has predicted that Pittsburgh will part ways with Woods, citing his poor performance thus far in preseason.
“Meanwhile, Woods was penalized for holding and did not record a catch,” DeFabo wrote.
There was a time when Woods was actually a terrific receiver. He posted back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns with the Los Angeles Rams in 2018 and 2019 and then finished with another 936 yards in 2020.
Since then, however, Woods has fallen off significantly, and last year, he managed just 20 catches for 203 yards with the Houston Texans, by far the least productive season of his NFL tenure.

Now 33 years old, it’s fair to question how much Woods has left in the tank, and there is obviously a reason he has been bouncing around the league since departing the Rams after 2021.
The Steelers probably could find a better option than Woods somewhere (like Amari Cooper, for example), so it would not be surprising to see Pittsburgh release the veteran and head in a different direction.
