The Tennessee Titans (2-1) finished off their preseason on a high note, defeating the Minnesota Vikings on Friday night. Cam Ward and the starters only played two series, but put together one strong touchdown drive to put the team up early.
Tennessee rested a lot of veterans and looked at a lot of young players in their final audition before the roster is reduced on Tuesday. One veteran who showed up to play was Van Jefferson, who had a big night and looked to cement his place on the roster.Â
Here’s a look at Titans Wire’s final 53-man roster projection. Â
Quarterbacks (2)
Starter: Cam Ward
Reserves: Brandon Allen
Ward looked calm and in total control of the offense in the third preseason game, and looks ready for the regular season to begin. He is a rookie, and there will be uneven moments, but he is progressing. Callahan likes Allen and the veteran presence he brings to the room, so he stays as the backup.Â
Running backs (4)
Starter: Tony Pollard
Reserves: Tyjae Spears, Kalel Mullings, Julius Chestnut
Jordan Mims made a late push and could slip into the final spot, but it is unlikely that it was enough to jump Chestnut or Mullings, although this is too close to call. Mullings did leave the game with a lower leg injury, so that will be something to monitor, but the final decision on roster make-up will likely be based on Spears’ health, which could make things interesting.
Wide Receivers (6)
Starters: Calvin Ridley, Tyler Lockett, Elic Ayomanor
Reserves: Bryce Oliver, Chimere Dike, Van JeffersonÂ
Jefferson had a big game and redeemed himself after struggling against the Atlanta Falcons. Oliver brings special teams value to the roster, and Dike adds some explosion. James Proche is a tough call; he is on the cusp and could sneak in.
Tight ends (3)
Starter: Chig Okonkwo
Reserves: Gunnar Helm, David Martin-Robinson,Â
This was the group in our first projection, and it stays the same after this game. It’s likely Tennessee will slide a tight end to the practice squad, but these three should be a safe bet.Â
Offensive linemen (9)
Starters: Dan Moore Jr., Peter Skoronski, Lloyd Cushenberry, Kevin Zeitler, JC Latham
Reserves: Blake Hance, Jackson Slater, Corey Levin, John Ojukwo
The starters are set, but the reserves are still somewhat of a question mark. Slater made it as a rookie because he likely wouldn’t have made it to the practice squad. Okukwu made it as the final tackle. The Titans could look outside the organization to add depth, having the top waiver spot, so this could be an area to keep an eye on.Â
Defensive line (5)
Starters: Jeffery Simmons, T’Vondre Sweat, Sebastian Joseph-Day
Reserves: James Lynch, Carlos Watkins
Watkins makes it over Timmy Horne in a slight change from last week. With T’Vondre Sweat still being a bit of an unknown heading into the season due to conditioning issues after missing a large chunk of the preseason and training camp, this could be another position to watch after teams trim their rosters. Â
Outside linebackers (5)
Starters: Arden Key, Dre’Mont Jones
Reserves: Oluwafemi Oladejo, Jihad Ward, Jaylen Harrell
Harrell makes it as the fourth or fifth outside linebacker due to Ward’s inside/outside flexibility, which could come into play on game day. Oladejo is still developing and will likely be worked in slowly
Inside linebacker (4)
Starters: Cody Barton, Cedric Gray
Reserves: James Williams, Brian Asamoah
Cedric Gray might have played himself into the starting lineup with another strong performance. While Williams also made some plays, Gray’s ability to stop the run is a huge asset and something the Titans’ defense lacked in 2024. Asamoah makes the cut solely because of his special teams experience.
Cornerback (5)
Starters: L’Jarius Sneed, Jarvis Brownlee Jr., Roger McCreary
Reserves: Marcus Harris, Darrell Baker Jr.
With Sneed returning and possibly being able to go against the Broncos, the Titans decided to only keep five cornerbacks. They will likely load up on the practice squad after the cuts, just in case Sneed can’t go. Harris has been ascending and has worked his way onto the roster.Â
Safety (6)
Starters: Amani Hooker, Xavier Woods
Reserves: Kevin Winston Jr., Quandre Diggs, Kendall Brooks, Mike Brown
Brooks and Brown both made the final 53 due to their special teams value and the Titans’ caution with Winston’s recovery from ACL surgery.Â
Special teams (3)
Starters: Joey Slye (K), Johnny Hekker (P), Morgan Cox (LS)
The three specialists had no competition in camp and will be the specialists heading into the regular season.Â
