This is a big week around the NFL, as teams scramble to make their difficult final roster decisions for their final 53-man depth chart ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. One Spartan just failed to make the cut this year, as the Buffalo Bills announced they would be releasing former Michigan State football tight end Matt Sokol.

Sokol has hung around on the periphery of the NFL since going undrafted in 2019. He has mainly been on practice squads the last few years, with his last game action coming in 2023 with the New England Patriots. Sokol will look for another practice squad opportunity after this most recent stint with the Bills didn’t land him on a roster spot.

As a former 3-star prospect, Sokol had a solid career for the Spartans, tallying 348 yards and two touchdowns in his career. While those aren’t gaudy numbers, his NFL size has kept teams interested since he left East Lansing.
