Sport: NCAAF

Being both an NFL and college football fan, I relish contrasting the rules and traditions between the two levels of competition. One aspect that the college game gets right over the NFL is the Week 0 slate, which is so much superior to the NFL preseason. It is a mini-slate for college fanatics to whet their appetite, and different schools get the national spotlight to open the season.

On Saturday, Hawaii, Sam Houston, UNLV, and Western Kentucky all had the opportunity to display their programs and players. I enjoyed four of the five games at home on television and got to analyze competitors and offensive schemes that are not usually available front and center during the fall.

Also, the Big 12 kicked off the 2025 campaign with a Conference matchup between Iowa State and Kansas State in Dublin, Ireland. It was a great opportunity for all the students and team personnel to see a different country and play abroad.

There’s no such thing as too much football! 2025 is the perfect time to add the college game to your fantasy football repertoire. Whether you want to create your own league or join an existing league, the Fantrax College Football Commissioner is the place to go!

College Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

It is now time to assess the results of the Week 0 contests. Obviously, there were some very interesting performances, and College Fantasy Footballers must take notice. I have listed three players who impressed me the most:

QB Maverick McIvor, Western Kentucky

Fantasy Points: 44.75

Obviously, the Hilltoppers want to throw the ball all over the field, and in 2025, coach Tyson Helton found a pitcher who can sling it. McIvor passed for 401 yards and totaled four touchdowns: one rushing and three passing. Western Kentucky has Northern Alabama and Toledo in the next two weeks, and McIvor will surely be throwing the pigskin often.

RB Jai’den Thomas, UNLV

Fantasy Points: 36.3

Let’s be real: Jai’den Thomas will not average 14.7 yards per carry throughout the season. The offensive line blasted wide-open holes against Idaho State (an FCS opponent), and Thomas took advantage of the opportunities, scampering for 147 yards and three scores. The Rebels play Sam Houston next, and Thomas could be a viable option this week and down the road.

WR Matthew Henry, Western Kentucky

Fantasy Points: 27.8

There was debate in the CFF community in regard to who would be the top pass catcher at Western Kentucky. On Saturday, Matthew Henry clearly made a statement that he is the guy in the aerial assault. He dominated the Sam Houston corners outside the hash marks down the field and snatched seven passes for 148 yards and a score.

Matt Hicks and I recorded our Top 10 Waiver Wire Gemstones in our Rookie Big Board show. Please check it out for a deeper dive into the free agent pool. I also posted a waiver wire poll to help CFF coaches manage the player pool in their leagues. Enjoy my fellow diehards and good luck this week in all your CFF matchups.

Week 0: Who is the most interesting free agent on CFF Waiver Wires after yesterday’s games?

RB Micah Ford, Stanford: 11%
WR Cam Pickett, Kansas: 13%
WR Matthew Henry, Western Kentucky: 57%
RB Jai’den Thomas, UNLV: 19%

“Matthew Henry for me. I drafted him twice and wish I grabbed him more often. You can tell that he is the alpha in the WR room.” @aceholesrule

“I went into the year giving Matthew Henry a slight edge over KD Hutchinson, basically a coin toss. Let’s just say that it appears to be a double-sided coin with Henry on both sides.” @eliotmays

“Matthew Henry by a lot.” @DynastyMattyIce
