The Seattle Seahawks dropped their preseason finale, losing 20-7 to the Green Bay Packers. Head coach Mike Macdonald mostly played reserves with Tuesday’s roster cut-down day looming. One of the mainstays who did play was wide receiver Jake Bobo.

Perhaps that wasn’t a great decision. Bobo was injured during his second punt return of the evening as teammate Tyler Hall got blocked into him. Bobo awkwardly collided with the back of Hall’s right leg, creating concern among teammates and medical staff.

Macdonald has since provided an update. Bobo suffered a concussion. The Seahawks are probably fortunate it wasn’t worse.

The league will officially place Bobo in the concussion protocol. The Seahawks have two weeks until their regular-season campaign begins Sept. 7 against their NFC West arch nemesis San Francisco 49ers. That should give Bobo enough time to progress through the protocol.

“He’s in good spirits,” Macdonald said. “And we will start that protocol and go from there. Considering what it looked like, I think we’re fortunate that’s what we’re dealing with at this point.”

Bobo should avoid IR to make the Seahawks’ initial 53-man roster. Playing him on Saturday in the preseason finale came with unnecessary risk. The Seahawks are fortunate Bobo avoided the worst-case scenario.
