Youtube TV, Fox in contract dispute as football season begins

  • August 26, 2025

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) – Youtube TV subscribers may need to find a new way to watch their favorite football teams as the streaming platform is currently locked in a contract dispute with FOX. If the two sides can not come to an agreement by Wednesday, Aug 27, Fox channels such as the Fox Broadcast Network, Fox News, Fox Sports, FS1, and the Big Ten Network may become unavailable on the platform.

The dispute comes just before the start of the NFL and college football seasons which draw large viewership numbers on several Fox channels.

Michigan State will open the their college football season Friday, Aug 29 at home against Western Michigan on FS1 and this dispute could impact fans’ ability to watch the game. Kickoff for Friday night’s season opener is set for 7:00 p.m. at Spartan Stadium.

Youtube TV said in a letter to subscribers Monday that they remain committed to negotiating a deal to keep the Fox channels on the platform. If the channels are removed for an extended period of time, Youtube TV said subscribers will see a $10 credit.

If the channels are taken off the platform, viewers can get access to the Fox platforms by signing up for Fox One, a subscription to all of the Fox products.

Fox launched a website to inform Youtube TV subscribers of the dispute. The following statement was posted to that website:

“While FOX remains committed to reaching a fair agreement with Google’s YouTube TV, we are disappointed that Google continually exploits its outsized influence by proposing terms that are out of step with the marketplace. We are alerting FOX viewers who are YouTube TV subscribers that they could lose access to much of their favorite news, sports, entertainment and local station programming unless Google engages in a meaningful way soon.”
