GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – When it comes to Friday Nights in the Fall, it’s hard not to notice Ward Howdy in John Paul II Football games.
Towering over most of the competition at 6′4, 220 pounds, Howdy’s preferred position is wreaking havoc off the edge at defensive end.
“If you’re an offensive tackle, you’re in for a long night when you’re matched up against Ward,” Saints’ Head Coach Sean Murphy said.
Last year, he made 75 tackles as a Junior, and forced four fumbles while also playing tight end on offense and holding special teams duties as well.
“I just have to have a mentality of ‘Go get it,’” Howdy noted, “So I see the guy with the ball, I’ve got to track him, and know what I’m supposed to do, it’s my job.”
A three-sport athlete, Ward also starts on the basketball and lacrosse teams at JP2, but has garnered college interest for football. This summer, Howdy attended camps at some of the top Universities on the east coast, and is determined to pick up as many offers as possible this season.
