“Spencer Rattler’s our starting quarterback (and) really, really excited for him,” Saints head coach Kellen Moore said in Tuesday’s press conference. “He’s done an awesome job this offseason. He’s just been consistent. He’s made some really good decisions throughout this whole entire process.”
Rattler, who spent three seasons at OU before transferring to the University of South Carolina, beat out the Saints’ second-round pick, Tyler Shough, for the starting job. Throughout preseason, Rattler threw for 295 yards with a passing touchdown and an interception as well as tacking on 72 yards on the ground.
Rattler will make his seventh career start in this season’s opener against the Cardinals at 12 p.m. on Sept. 7 on CBS, going head-to-head with former OU quarterback Kyler Murray.
