The Cardinals are in the middle of the league for the waiver wire.

The next step in the NFL roster cuts process is the wait to see if any players are claimed on the waiver wire. Players with fewer than four credited seasons are subject to waivers, meaning for roughly 24 hours (a little less for final cuts as it is more like 20 hours), teams can put a claim in for a player who was cut.

The team with the highest priority will be awarded the player. In the offseason, it is based on the original order of the first round of that year’s NFL draft.

The Cardinals had the 16th pick in the draft this year, so they are right in the middle of the pack. They will only win a waiver claim if the 15 teams above them in the waiver priority do not place a waiver claim.

If awarded a player off waivers, he immediately occupies a spot on the 53-man roster, which requires a corresponding move to remove another player already there.
