The Tennessee Titans will begin the process of filling out their practice squad on Aug. 27, both via bringing players back who were waived on NFL roster cuts day and by acquiring new players from across the league.

Additionally, because they own the first spot in the waiver wire, the Titans will be able to claim any player they like who was waived on Aug. 26. Players with fewer than four years of NFL service time that get cut in August are subject to waivers, while players with more experience than that go straight to free agency and can negotiate with any team they like.

The Titans kept 53 players on their active roster coming out of cut day, plus running back Tyjae Spears who is on the injured list but designated for return. In order to claim players off waivers, the Titans will need to cut players from the active roster to make space, and those players who get cut will be eligible to revert to the Titans’ practice squad if/once they clear waivers a day later.

The deadline to submit waiver claims is 11 a.m. CT. Follow along as the Titans make their waiver claims and news about the practice squad adds trickle in.

Titans depth chart: Waiver claims, practice squad updates

Per national reports, the Titans’ four waiver wire claims are DB Jalyn Armour-Davis, LB Dorian Mausi, DE C.J. Ravenell and DB Samuel Womack.

Ravenell is another big, edge-setting defensive lineman type who is listed at 300 pounds and signed a futures contract with Baltimore back in January. He was teammates in Baltimore with Armour-Davis, a rangy defensive back from Alabama who has experience playing under Dennard Wilson.

Womack, formerly of the Colts, is a smaller defensive back but one who has playing experience and impressive ball skills. The Titans got a first-hand look at Mausi in the preseason finale when he was playing for Minnesota and made three tackles.

None of the Titans’ cuts from the last 48 hours appear on the transaction logs, meaning all of them should be free to re-sign to the Titans’ practice squad as wanted.

Dorian Mausi, an undrafted rookie linebacker who spent training camp with the Minnesota Vikings, is one of the Titans’ four waiver claims, per a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

A former fourth-round pick in Baltimore who measures at 6-foot-1, Armour-Davis is a cornerback who has experience playing under Titans defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson. Injuries have hampered him throughout his pro career. ESPN is reporting that Armour-Davis is one of the Titans’ four waiver claims.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Titans are also claiming defensive back Samuel Womack.

News isn’t out yet on who they are, but The Tennessean can report that the Titans have waiver claimed four players. All four will be rewarded to the Titans by this afternoon.

Waiver claims were due by 11 a.m. CT, so however many claims the Titans put in, they’re being processed by now. The Titans will announce their claims once they’ve worked out which corresponding moves they’ll be making to clean up the roster.

Elsewhere in league news in the last hour: Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice has reportedly accepted a six-game suspension, the New England Patriots have reportedly released receiver Kendrick Bourne and the Ravens have announced a contract extension with Kyle Hamilton. Busy morning.

The Titans have first claim on the waiver wire, so they can grab whoever they want. But there’s also some game theory at play here; if there’s someone who you think might miss waivers entirely and you can try to sign as a free agent or to the practice squad later, you can hold off.

At cornerback, arguably the area where the Titans have the biggest need, that might not be an option. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that NFL fans and viewers should expect a heavy rush on corner early on with the Titans and Cleveland Browns both interested in the position and sitting in the top two waiver wire spots.

Expect cornerback to loom large with today’s waiver wire claims. Titans and Browns (1 and 2) looking for depth there, among others.

JuJu Brents, Damarri Mathis, Jalyn Armour-Davis, Beanie Bishop among notable options.

A couple of early reports have come in about which Titans players might be headed back to the practice squad. The list includes DT Cam Horsley, RBs Jermar Jefferson and Jordan Mims, WR Xavier Restrepo and safety Kendell Brooks.

None of these intentions can be fully cleared until waiver claims are announced, of course. If any of these players are claimed by another team, they’ll automatically be added to that team’s active roster for a minimum of four weeks unless they are cut again or placed on injured reserve.

Sorted by position, here are the players the Titans waived or released in the past 48 hours who could make sense as returning contributors on the practice squad:
