Leading up to the regular season, Colts focus on catering to QB Jones’ strengths

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen discusses focusing on Daniel Jones as the starter.

Jelani Woods, a tight end drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2022, has been picked up by the New York Jets off waivers.

Woods, a third-round pick in 2022, showed promise as a rookie, with 25 catches for 312 yards (12.5 per) and three touchdowns.

However, he missed the 2023 (hamstring) and ’24 (turf toe) seasons with injuries. The Colts drafted tight end Tyler Warren in the first round in 2025 to bolster an NFL-worst position area, in terms of receiving production.

Woods, 26, had seven receptions for 75 yards in the preseason. The Colts kept Warren, Mo Alie-Cox, Will Mallory and Drew Ogletree.
