When the New York Giants trimmed their roster to 53 players earlier this week, they decided to keep rookie cornerback Korie Black, their seventh-round pick, on the active roster.
A day later, needing to shuffle things around, they waived Black with the intention of re-signing him to the practice squad once he cleared waivers, which he did.

“Korie, unfortunately, was injured the majority of camp, so he had a good spring. He showed some traits there that we were excited about. Unfortunately, just injured in camp, so we’ll see what happens there,” general manager Joe Schoen told reporters on Wednesday.
In the end, that did not pan out for the Giants.
On Thursday, rather than re-signing with the Giants, Black opted to join their cross-town rivals, signing to the New York Jets’ practice squad.
Black was inconsistent throughout the summer, largely due to injury issues, and was considered a bubble player right up until the end. If the Giants want him back, they would have to sign him to their 53-man roster off the Jets’ practice squad.

Black now becomes the first Schoen draft pick to be cut (and lost) as a rookie.
