August 30th marks the official beginning of the college football season, with all eyes on arguably the biggest game of the weekend, when the Ohio State Buckeyes and Texas Longhorns clash in Columbus, Ohio. It will also mark the end of a remarkable career for college football commentator and icon, Lee Corso. While Corso’s college headgear picks are what many fans remember him for, Corso was also an accomplished collegiate football player and coach.
Former Denver Bronco and Ring of Famer Tom Jackson was one of the players personally touched by Corso. Jackson was recruited by Coach Corso to play at Louisville, where the duo teamed up from 1970-72. Jackson spoke about what Corso meant to him in an ESPN documentary celebrating Corso’s legendary career, which originally aired on Friday, August 22nd.

“Coach Corso, you have been such a big part of my life,” said Jackson. “I think about all those conversations that we had during our time at Louisville and I’m talking about the ones that were private. I love you, care about you. Thank you.”
The full documentary, named after one of Corso’s trademark phrases, is called “Not so Fast, My Friend.” It is now available to watch on ESPN+. It may be available to watch on cable TV leading up to Corso’s final appearance on Saturday.
Thank you, Coach Corso, for the good times, and the 400+ headgear picks you made throughout the years. I wish my son was old enough to remember your impact on the college game in this day and age.
