A pair of Philadelphia Eagles legends have kicked off their college coaching careers. But unfortunately, neither began the 2025 season with a win.
Former Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, now the head coach at Norfolk State, and former star wide receiver DeSean Jackson, Delaware State’s head coach, both lost on Thursday.
Vick’s Norfolk State lost, 27-7, at home to Towson while Jackson’s Delaware State squad lost, 35-17, to Delaware in their season openers.
Neither result was a surprise for the former Pro Bowl Eagles. Vick and the Spartans were listed as 9 1/2-point underdogs against Towson. Delaware, which made the jump to the FBS this season, was a 30 1/2-point favorite against Jackson’s Hornets.
Both Vick and Jackson are making their first forays into college coaching at Norfolk State and Delaware State, a pair of HBCUs at the FCS level. Vick, a Virginia native, was the 2010 NFL Comeback Player of the Year with the Eagles in 2010. Jackson’s 6,512 receiving yards ranks third in Eagles history behind only Harold Carmichael and Pete Retzlaff.
Vick will have a good chance to snag his first win next Saturday when Norfolk State hosts Virginia State. Jackson’s Delaware State will likely be underdogs against Albany.
Eagles fans will have an opportunity to see Vick and Jackson coach against each other this fall. Norfolk State and Delaware State will square off at Lincoln Financial Field on Oct. 30.
