On Friday, August 29, the Kansas City Chiefs officially signed tight end Robert Tonyan, who was one of the team’s top performers during the preseason, to their 53-man roster after star wide receiver Rashee Rice was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list.
Tonyan, who is entering his eighth season in the NFL, has played in stints for the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, and Minnesota Vikings. He will compete with tight ends Noah Gray and Jared Wiley for playing time behind star pass-catcher Travis Kelce on Kansas City’s depth chart.

Chiefs Senior Team Reporter Matt McMullen officially announced that Tonyan was signed to Kansas City’s 53-man roster in a post to his official Twitter account:
Though Tonyan isn’t expected to play a key part in Kansas City’s air attack this season, his contributions could be valuable as the Chiefs look to reinvent their offensive approach in 2025.
Stay tuned to see if Tonyan will suit up during Kansas City’s Week 1 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil, on September 5.
