One NFC exec provided some high praise for Indianapolis Colts’ first round pick, TE Tyler Warren.

After speaking with executives, scouts, and coaches, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler emptied his post-NFL draft notebook, and included was one NFC exec offering some high praise for Indianapolis Colts’ first-round pick Tyler Warren.

Here is what Fowler wrote:

“This quote from an NFC exec on the Colts‘ first-round pick, tight end Tyler Warren, stuck with me: “He sort of walked on water at Penn State. Like, beyond the great play, you could just tell he made that thing go and Penn State is going to miss his presence greatly.” That says a lot about the player Indianapolis has added.”

Given the need that the Colts had for a pass-catching presence at the tight end position, the ability that Warren possesses to impact the game through the air has been the main focus. But as we saw during his time at Penn State, Warren can fill a variety of roles within an offense.

We saw him lining up across the formation in college, which at times, included being in the backfield. Along with his pass-catching abilities, Warren is also a reliable blocker in the run game.

When an offense has that do-it-all type of presence at the tight end position, it adds a layer of unpredictability to that unit because that player can fill so many roles. This then keeps defenses off-balance and guessing, and not only creates opportunities for Warren to exploit but also for his teammates as well.

Warren will give the Colts their needed pass-catching boost at the tight end position, particularly over the middle of the field, but his effect on the game will go well beyond just that facet.
