They may not play much, but each UDFA brings gold to the Ravens’ defensive roster.

Most of us will never know the joy of throwing on the purple and gold and walking into battle as a member of the Baltimore Ravens. It’s for that reason that we live vicariously through two-time MVPs like Lamar Jackson and future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees like Derrick Henry. They’re the guys carrying a legacy of a franchise that has previously won two Vince Lombardi Trophies.

As years pass, new Ravens enter the flock, and the process begins of learning about them. Here’s what we have continued to notice. There have been some characters associated with this franchise.

Most of whom have tremendous character. Make no mistake. It’s easy to become and remain a Ravens fan. Those warm and fuzzy feelings only intensified after seeing the clips of three undrafted rookies being informed by general manager Eric DeCosta that they had made the team.

That was awesome. We told you that it was a tearjerker. All three of these extraordinary young men are now part of a legitimate Super Bowl contender. They may not play very often, but make no mistake. They aren’t just nice stories. They add tremendous value.

Jay Higgins IV, linebacker

Jay Higgins earned his spot on the roster, but he’s the third inside linebacker on the depth chart behind another exciting rookie, Teddye Buchanan, and, of course, the great Roquan Smith. Higgins notched 15 tackles, a sack, two additional QB hits, and two pass breakups during the preseason.

He comes to Baltimore by way of his native Indianapolis. He played his college ball at Iowa with the Hawkeyes, where he was First-Team All-Big Ten, a Unanimous All-American, and the Big Ten Linebacker of the Year.

Reuben Lowey, safety

Reuben Lowery is a damn good football player, but he and Sanoussi Kane sit behind two others on the depth chart, starters Kyle Hamilton and Malaki Starks. Still, based on numbers alone, he figures to have the best chance at seeing significant playing time as the Ravens only roster four safeties.

Lowery notched 15 tackles and a pass breakup during the preseason. He was a First-Team All-SoCon mention in 2024 after earning Second-Team honors in 2022.

Keyon Martin, cornerback

Martin is part of a stacked cornerback room, safely nestled behind a fantastic starting trio. Nate Wiggins, Jaire Alexander, and Marlon Humphrey will take the starting snaps. Chidobe Awuzie, T.J. Tampa, and Martin are the reserves.

13 tackles, a sack, an additional QB hit, a pick-six interception, and two pass breakups are the results of Martin’s preseason. There was no way he’d be left off the roster after that.

We would again like to welcome Jay Higgins IV, Reuben Lowery, and Keyon Martin to the two-time Super Bowl-champion Baltimore Ravens. The work is just beginning.

It’s time to go and win a third. Play like Ravens guys. As long as you all can make that promise, everything will take care of itself.
