With their Week 1 tilt against the Los Angeles Chargers fast-approaching, the Kansas City Chiefs solidified their 17-man practice squad on Thursday, roughly a week ahead of their travel to São Paulo, Brazil.  They wasted little time assigning the newest members of the team jersey numbers, with practice for Week 1 scheduled to begin on Sunday, August 31.
Chiefs’ Practice Squad Jersey Numbers

This jersey number was previously worn by S Deon Bush, who is on season-ending injured reserve after rupturing his Achilles. Robinson wore No. 22 with the Carolina Panthers and No. 26 with the Arizona Cardinals. He also wore No. 7 with South Carolina and No. 10 with Florida State.
40. RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
Edwards-Helaire previously wore No. 25 in Kansas City from 2020 to 2024. Chiefs RB Elijah Mitchell currently wears No. 25, which is why Edwards-Helaire had to change to No. 40. Jersey No. 40 was actually last worn by CB Jacobe Covington. Edwards-Helaire recently wore No. 23 with the New Orleans Saints.
This one might be a good omen for Smith, as the great Art Still wore No. 67 in Kansas City. Smith previously wore Nos. 50, 59, and 92 in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks and the Arizona Cardinals. He also wore No. 11 with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The most notable recent Chiefs player to wear No. 79 was Donovan Smith, but the last defensive tackle to wear No. 79 was Cortez Broughton. Pickens wore No. 6 at South Carolina and No. 96 with the Chicago Bears. He seems to have a fondness for No. 6, so it’ll be interesting to hear his reasoning behind 79.
You have to go back to 1984 to find the last time a defensive lineman wore No. 73 for the Chiefs during a season. It has traditionally been a number worn by the offensive line. Downs wore No. 96 with the Jacksonville Jaguars and No. 40 with the Oklahoma Sooners.
The No. 93 jersey was last worn by DT Coziah Izzard. Martin wore No. 98 with the Detroit Lions and No. 99 with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
